النص بالعربية:

"انـكـم حـضـرات العلماء, ولست أدري ولا أريد أن ادري, من هو المسؤول ؟ هل أنتم, أم الإدارة, أم السياسة, أم البرامج؟

أصبحتم غائبين عن الميدان اليومي في المغرب (...) وهذه الغربة نؤدي ثمنها جميعاً, لأنه أصبح الإسلام وتدريس الإسلام في الجامعات أو في المدارس الثانوية لا يعدو على أن يكون دروساً لتعليم نواقض الوضوء ومبطلات الصلاة. فأين هو تحليل النظام الاقتصادي والاجتماعي والاشتراكي المحض الصرف الإسلامي؟ أين هو تعليم وتلقين الطلبة والتلاميذ على أن الـديـن قبل كل شيء هو المعاملة؟ (...) فـلـي الـقـيـن, حـضـرات السادة أنـكـم ستنفخون بروح جديدة في وطننا العزيز.

عليكم أن تعلموا حضرات الأساتذة أن المغرب لا يمكن أن يعيش التناقض, لا يمكنه أن يتفتح إلى العالم العصري وإلى مشاركة العالم العصري وإلى معايشة العالم العصري يومياً, بالسيارة والهاتف و التلفزة, وأن يعتقد أنه سيعيش في قفص من زجاج, يجعله في مأمن من الجراثيم المحيطة به.

.) ليس) دور العالم أن يصبح مقدماً لحومة, لا, ليس هكذا سنحارب المنكر. (...)

حياتنا هي هذه, وهذا ما أراد الله, ولكن علينا أن نظهر للناس أن هذه المظاهر هي أصبحت من زينة الأرض. (...)ان الفرق بين الدين والدنيا غير موجود, وهذا فضل الإسلام, الذي جعلنا نبقى نحن المسلمين دائما متمسكين بوحدتنا الإسلامية بالتضامن الإسلامي, هو أننا بقينا نعيش تحت أو في قميص واحد, فيه الدين وفيه الدنيا. فإذن يجب أن تكون مناقشتكم ليست مناقشة علماء أمام حكومة, فالحكومة علماء, والعلماء حكومة, لأن الدين والدنيا مختلطان, واليوم الذي تفرق فيه دولة إسلامية بين دينها ودنياها فلنصل عليها الجنازة مسبقا'‘.

تلك كانت اللبنة الأولى والتي ستغتني بلبنة أخرى تنتقل بالسياسة الدينية من الضبط إلى المراقبة بعد قلاقل عرفتها المملكة في يناير 1984.

Text in English

Your distinguished scholars, I do not know and I do not want to know who is responsible. Is it you, the administration, the policy, or the programs? You have alienated yourself from what is going on in Morocco (…), and we paid a huge price for this alienation. Because, Islam and its teachings in high schools and universities have become nothing more than teaching Wudu (Abulation) Nullity and Salat invalidity. Where is the analysis of the economic, social, socialist system of pure Islam? Where is the teaching of university and high school students of “Do unto the others”? (…) I am pretty sure that your honorable scholars will bring out a new spirit in our beloved country.

Your honorable teacher, you should know that it is unreasonable to think that Morocco can live in contradictory and cannot open up, participate and integrate into the daily modern world; using cars, phone, and television thinking he (Morocco) is safe from what is going around in his cage made of glass.

Scholar’s role cannot be the same as the Moqaddem role, and that is not how we fight evildoing (…).

This is our life, and that is God’s will. Therefore, we should teach our people that these appearances have become earth adornment, and there is no difference between religion and worldly life. And that is Islam’s grace, what made us, we the Muslims, hold our unity and solidarity is that we live under one flag that embraces both worldly life and religion. Therefore, your debate should not be a debate of a scholar before the government, for the government and scholars are one body, and religion and worldly life are mingled. If a day has come where they got separated we should pray a Salat Al Janza (funeral).

That was the first stone that will be enriched by a second one, moving the religious policy from controlling to observing after the instabilities that the country had in January 1984.

Comment:

During the process of translation I had to make the following changes:

1. Omitting some phrases: -فالحكومة علماء, والعلماء حكومة and replace by for the government and scholars are one body to avoid reputation in English text.

• - Under one shirt that is the literal translation of تحت أو في قميص واحد by under one flag for it has no meaning in the English text and the reader will not understand it.
• - Omitting the wordتلقين in the English text for both words تعليم وتلقين means teaching

1. Addition of university and high school students, because the only equivalent in the English for the words الطلبة والتلاميذ is the word students in English language.
2. Replaced the literal translation of the sentence: قبل كل شيء هو المعاملة by Do unto others instead of Religion is in the treatment of the others. For it is more suitable.
3. Changes in sentence structure and punctuation that go with the English language syntax.
